Anybody from any background can develop a mental disorder. They all take a toll on your ability to maintain healthy relationships, succeed in school or work, and simply stay happy. These disorders are very serious and make it difficult to get through basic tasks in life, which is why we need to treat everyone with kindness since you never know what people might be going through. Most of these disorders develop in people if they have had traumatic experiences or have been exposed to someone who also has that disorder, which may influence the way that they think. These factors are not in anybody’s control, meaning developing a mental disorder is not anybody’s control. Those with mental disorders should not be viewed as weak, but rather strong for being able to persevere through life’s battles with the constant stress and fear in their heads.
It is important to note that a very small part of the population receives help for their disorders. If you or a loved one believes that you may have a mental disorder, I advise that you take action as soon as possible. Without taking action, your condition can worsen making it more and more difficult to navigate through everyday life. Do not be afraid that you are weak in reaching out for help. By recognizing and admitting that there is a problem and wanting to put in work to get better makes you strong.
