Jealousy

Jealousy is a feeling that we all experience. When we experience difficult times in our lives, we wish that we were someone else. Someone who appears to have a better life than us. I saw a quote once that said “If we all took our problems and threw them into a pile and saw everyone else’s, we’d take ours back”-unknown. The reality of the matter is there are so many things that are going on in other peoples’ lives that we don’t know about, so it’s not feasible to wish that we were someone else. Think about all the bad things of your life that you keep to yourself, that are either too painful or humiliating to talk about. Realize that everyone has things in their life like this that they don’t talk about. What I’ve noticed is that when we see flaws in ourself we tend to look for those same flaws within someone else. If someone doesn’t have that same flaw, we start to view them as better than ourselves but don’t recognize that they have many flaws also that we don’t recognize. It’s possible that the person that you’re jealous of for something is jealous of you for something else. We don’t spend enough time focusing on the good within ourselves. We take the good parts of ourselves and overanalyze them until we hate things about ourselves. And in this society, we are taught that our worth is based on relativity. You’re only good if you’re better than someone else. This is unhealthy thinking and it’s what leads to large-scale jealousy. Jealousy is a completely normal feeling to have, but I just wanted to write this to remind you that you shouldn’t constantly be questioning your own self-worth because of the people around you. The only person that determines your self-worth is you, your worth is not based on how you “rank” among others.
